What's new in PocketMile 1.19

PocketMile 1.19 has been on the App Store since September 17. The short version: your first week is free with no subscription question at all, setup is four screens instead of six, Siri can tag your trips, and every screen follows the text size you set on your iPhone. The privacy promise did not move. Still no account, still nothing sent to us, still listed as Data Not Collected.

A free week before anything else

The whole app is open for your first seven days. Drive, let it log, tag a few trips, export a report, and decide with real trips in front of you. The subscription question comes on day 8, and the 7-day App Store trial still applies after that, so the first two weeks cost nothing.

Here is the part we care about most: there is no account behind that free week, and no server counting your days. The start date is a single date kept on your phone and mirrored in your own iCloud, so a reinstall picks up where you left off. If you already subscribe, nothing changes. If you tried PocketMile before and let it lapse, you get a fresh week.

A shorter setup

Four screens instead of six. Your region is picked for you from the phone, so the miles-or-kilometres and IRS-or-CRA questions are answered before you see them. The car step is gone from setup. You add your car from the Mileage tab when you are ready, and the app walks you through your first drive instead of asking for everything up front.

Siri and Shortcuts

Seven shortcuts, no setup. Ask Siri to tag today's trips as business, to start or stop a trip, to clock in with a client, or to read your mileage for the week. They show up in the Shortcuts app too, so you can chain them into your own routines.

The shortcuts run inside the app on your phone. Your trips are not sent anywhere to make Siri work, and a tag request asks you to confirm before it writes anything.

Faster with a big backlog

If you let a few hundred trips pile up before tagging them, the Review screen used to crawl. It is smooth now, even with hundreds waiting, and the trip lists on the Mileage and Stats tabs got quicker in the same pass.

Text size that follows yours

Every screen now respects the text size you set in iOS Settings, up to the accessibility sizes. If you keep your phone on large text, PocketMile finally looks like the rest of your phone.

The smaller things

What did not change

No account, no login, no password. Your trips live on your iPhone and, if you want, in your own private iCloud. Nothing is sent to us, which means we cannot see where you drive even if we wanted to. The App Store still lists PocketMile as Data Not Collected, and 1.19 added nothing that would change that label.

The free week has no account behind it and no server counting your days. It is one date on your phone, in your own iCloud.

What's next

The next release is 2.0, and it has no date yet. What is being built: iPad and Mac layouts, Control Center and Action button controls, tagging a trip right from the notification, a one-tap export to your accountant, and an accessibility pass. The roadmap has the full list and what we are still weighing.

How to get it

Open the App Store, tap your profile picture, and update PocketMile, or turn on automatic updates and forget about it. The update is free. Something off after updating? Send Feedback inside the app attaches a diagnostic log, or write to support@pocketmile.app.

Try the whole app for a week

Everything is open for your first week, then a 7-day trial, then $2.99/month. No account, nothing sent to us.
